How to test your UPI ID with one rupee

Right after you add a UPI ID, Kulhad offers to test it. Take the offer. It is the only way to find out that the ID is right before somebody else finds out that it is wrong.

How it goes

  1. Kulhad shows you a QR code and a button for one rupee to the ID you just added.
  2. On a phone, tap the button. Your UPI app opens with the amount and the payee already filled in. On a computer, scan the QR with your phone.
  3. Pay the rupee from a different account if you have one, or from the same one. Paying yourself works and costs nothing.
  4. Look at your bank app.
  5. Come back and press It arrived.

Your Settings screen then marks that ID as tested.

If the money does not arrive

Do not share the page yet. Work through these in order.

  • Check the name your UPI app showed you before you confirmed. That name comes from the bank rather than from Kulhad. If it is not your name, the ID belongs to somebody else and you have typed it wrong.
  • Compare the ID character by character with your bank app. The usual mistakes are a missing digit in a phone number and the wrong bank handle, like okaxis instead of okicici.
  • Check the payment actually went through. If your own app said it failed, the ID may still be fine.

Fix the ID in Settings and test again.

Later on

Test again whenever you change banks or add a new ID. An old ID keeps pointing at the old account, and a printed QR carrying it keeps working long after you have stopped using that account.
